Over 65s tilted, turned and tapped their toes into the Victorian Seniors Festival, with a local event that brought together older people from across the Surf Coast. Entertainment was provided by the Belmont High Jazz Band, featuring young Surf Coast musicians, while the Studios dancers performed a demonstration and interactive dance sequence, with attendees learning steps to join in the fun. Shire mayor Brian McKiterick described the event as a fun way to celebrate seniors in the Surf Coast. The services for eligible people include delivered meals, home modifications, respite care, domestic assistance, personal care and social support.
O n its face, the United Seniors Association USA decision two weeks ago to launch a major advertising blitz in support of the House Republicans' prescription-drug proposal was not unusual. The pharmaceutical industry, which funds the USA, has a huge stake in how the prescription-drug debate plays out in Congress. Since the elections, the drug industry's campaign contributions have tilted Republican at about 72 percent. What was odd was that the Republican plan in question doesn't really exist yet -- because Republicans in the House are sharply divided over precisely what kind of plan to offer voters this fall.
Senior citizens are leading more active sex lives and as the veterans of the sexual revolution head toward retirement, the golden years are getting even hotter. Carol McConnell, single after her husband of 18 years passed away, approached dating with some trepidation. But she found men her age and older to be ready and willing — if not always able — sexual companions. A year-old from Canada wooed her, too. She said both men used Viagra, although with limited success.
