When you add an image to a document in Microsoft Word , you can elect to place it on its own line or make text wrap around it. When you configure an image so text wraps around it, the image changes from an "inline" image to a "floating" one. Changing an inline image to a floating image allows you to continue modifying the document's text without causing the image to move.
