Amateur theatre awards

This week sees the announcement of the keenly awaited list of nominees for the awards which cover all aspects of on stage performance. During its first decade, the committee was responsible for raising funds to ensure the continued existence of the theatre and for initially establishing the theatre as a professional venue and latterly pressuring the local authority into employing a professional management team at the Borough. Almost a decade the committee was renamed A4B and now plays a vital role in supporting and fundraising for the Borough Theatre. Ltd taking over as the main sponsors of the event.

Taking place in the beautiful surroundings of this iconic Birmingham pub, we are moving downstairs and taking over the whole place! Originally established as the Gold Coast Area Theatre Awards and renamed the Gold Palm Awards in , they remain the ultimate recognition of excellence in all aspects of the flourishing Community Theatre scene not only on the Gold Coast but also in the neighbouring communities from Redcliffe to the North, Ballina to the South and Ipswich in the West. She suggested that an Awards system to acknowledge the contribution of non-professional, community groups should be created. And so, with support from Coralie Wood, a long-time colleague and professional publicist, the Canberra Amateur Theatre Awards was born.
